NSW Bushfire Clean-up Program Project for Laing & O’Rourke

March – August 2020

The 2019/2020 NSW bushfires resulted in the destruction of thousands of properties across the state.  The NSW Government appointed Laing O’Rourke to coordinate the clean-up of fire damaged residential and eligible commercial properties. Many of these properties contained friable asbestos so a thorough site assessment resulting in proper treatment and disposal was required.

PES Involvement:

PES provided a team of Project Managers, Construction Managers and Building Inspectors to assist with the inspections of bushfire impacted properties across the state.

Their roles in this project was to manage the following:

  • Initial site inspection and damage assessment
  • Oversee the removal of known hazardous materials, including asbestos
  • Oversee the removal of materials destroyed by bush fire
  • Assess and oversee the removal of hazardous trees
  • Liaison between affected homeowners and building contractors
  • With consent of building owners, removal of concrete slab foundations.

At the completion of this project a total of 3200 affected properties were cleared.  It was a great effort by the PES team who played an integral part in supporting thousands of families across the state who can now take the steps towards rebuilding.
